Maybe you are more familiar with the phrase, "Will to Live."
If you are, it is likely from direct experience and you know it is a VERY powerful feeling and motivator.
I want to share something perhaps even more powerful but perhaps less likely... "The Will to Give!"
Whether caught up in the never ending chaos and challenges of life or you've reached a place of comfort and fortune from which you've forgotten what it means we ALL have the capacity to give... and we should.
It could be a simple smile, wave, hug, or just listening. Some people volunteer or even work for organizations committed to making a difference in their community and/or the world at large.
In 2012 I was blessed to run the Boston Marathon for the National Braille Press.
I wasn't a runner. Far from it.
I had never run a marathon.
I just knew that I wanted, and that I could, so I helped those in need... and the rest is history.*
In 2017, my good friend Puneet Bhatia will be running the Boston Marathon on behalf of a non-profit I helped start, Community Investors. They need your support.
We are at mile 16 of our 26.2 mile ($500 per mile) goal and as any marathon runner can attest this is the toughest part of the race.
Do you have the Will to Give?
Community Investors is committed to delivering positive impactful experiences to at-risk children through free after school programs that support social and emotional wellness.
More than cancer, heart disease, and all medical conditions combined suicide is the leading cause of death among adolescents and this crisis continues to grow with increases in drugs, technology, and social pressures.
Puneet and the Community Investors team are committed to reversing this trend and embracing the power of play so that all kids will grow stronger both emotionally and as a community.
It's not a question of "Can you?" it's really a decision of "Will you?"
Join me in supporting Puneet and the #PowerOfPlay... because investing in kids is priceless!
* As some of you may know, the race forecast, and actual race day temperature for the 2012 Boston Marathon was one of the all time highest in race history, well over 90 degrees. For the first time race organizers encouraged runners to differ to the next year. I felt others didn't get to pick when hardship arrived nor should I. I lost over 11 pounds that day but had I differed to 2013 I would have very likely lost my life. You see, 2013 was the Boston Marathon bombing and it took place much later in the race... in fact, just around the time this non-runner would have eventually finished. What did I learn... don't put off to tomorrow what you can and should do today. Every day is a gift and everyone, including you... can give.
And for some added inspiration on giving...
